Wiki Info: The huldra is a stunningly beautiful, sometimes naked woman with long hair; though from behind she is hollow like an old tree trunk, and has an animal's tail. In some traditions, the huldra lures men into the forest to have sexual intercourse with her, rewarding those who satisfy her and often killing those who do not. In some cases, the intercourse resulted in a child, being presented to the unknowing father. In some cases, she forces him to marry her.
I know in *OfOneSoul's poem the man actually survives but I really wanted to try my hand at creating a bloody corpse of sorts. Hope you don't mind dear! I tried to stick to the description of the location and such, it was a really fun image to draw. I still think that I failed at drawing her hollowed out back. It was very difficult to make it look like wood and I still think it could have been better. Oh well. :frown: Anyway, wish me luck! First place includes a premium membership which I would love to have.
Hello, my dear! Congrats on being one of the First Place Winners!
I must admit - I loved this piece since the first time I saw it! It was a glorious interpretation of the poem and everything I imagine in a huldra.
I love the fading effect that surrounds the whole scene. I'm sure it takes skill to achieve such an effect with colored pencils. I especially loved the huldra's hair and the rainbow effect just behind her. I do not mind the mutilated corpse - after all, not every man can please her.
Might I ask a favor from you? Could I use this image as the preview for my poem, The Mating Season? I'll be sure to credit you in the Artist's Comments!
Thanks again for entering, my dear! I hope you enter the grande Illustrate My Story Contest coming soon, as well.
Please do use it as the preview! I felt the same about the poem. It's amazing, seriously. The fact that you liked the rainbow...After I did it I thought it was a huge mistake. Honestly, I'm pretty happy about the piece all together. Thank you so much for picking it as the winner.
